Man United fans vote on whether or not to sign Thomas Muller

Manchester United fans are largely unconvinced over reports linking them with signing Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller.

The versatile German was last rumoured for a move to Old Trafford during Louis van Gaal‘s reign but such is their desperation of late.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in desperate need of reinforcements this January transfer window, particularly in attack so it’s natural Muller’s name would pop up.

However, the 30 year old doesn’t really suit United’s transfer policy of signing emerging British talent so it is a little of a strange one.

On the other hand, Solskjaer has admitted to looking at more experienced targets this time around so it is possible they’re genuinely interested in Muller.

38% of the 1802 who voted did so opposing the signing of Muller, proving the majority of this sample of fans are unconvinced over the links.

It is interesting to note that those who favoured signing him as a replacement for a player actually preferred Jesse Lingard being moved on than Juan Mata.

The Spaniard is the more experienced one and in decline but the Englishman hasn’t been in form for at least a year.

15% are convinced there are better options on the market and that seems to be the most sensible approach to the situation.

Muller would likely not be sold for cheap and would definitely ask for high wages, especially if Manchester United continue to underperform.

This would leave the club with a similar scenario to when they signed Bastian Schweinsteiger as they were unable to offload an ageing, overpaid player.

Repeating past mistakes would be inexcusable but Solskjaer has invested wisely so far so if he does go for Muller, he does have to be given the benefit of the doubt at least temporarily.
