David de Gea 6 – Made a handful of decent saves in the first half but ones you’d expect him to pull off with one eye shut.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Magnificent. Faultless. Did not let a single player past him all day. He looks like he’s played for this club for years. United have a real gem on their hands.
Harry Maguire 7 – Looked uncertain of his position to start with but became more commanding as the game went on. His interception on the edge of United’s box kickstarted the counter for Anthony Martial‘s goal. A massive presence.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Quietly very assured with the ball at his feet. Played a vocal role and eased pressure when Chelsea were streaming forward.
Luke Shaw 6 – Had a difficult day at times up against the dual combination of Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro, receiving little cover, but his dedication to the cause was superb.
Scott McTominay 5 – For most of the game the Scotsman’s passing was unproductive. In in less technical terms, though, he scores a 7, as he was once again cajoling his teammates forward all afternoon – and notably told players to focus after the third went in.
Paul Pogba 7 – His first half was not great but, my God, how he can turn it on. That second-half performance blew Chelsea out of the water: power, precision, arrogance, class. Produced an unbelievable assist for Marcus Rashford and another out of nowhere for Daniel James. World class.
Andreas Pereira 7 – Another subtly excellent performance. Pressed from the front of midfield all game, putting pressure on Jorginho and Chelsea’s central defenders. There is certainly a place for him in this Ole Gunnar Solskjaer project.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Performed better than most in the first half, even if his decision making was not great, and maintained an excellent intensity all across the final third.
Marcus Rashford 7 – What a way to start. Drove at Chelsea with intent all afternoon and passed two important tests for any striker, but especially for one playing at United: scoring a penalty and a one-on-one.
Anthony Martial 6.5 – Decision making was poor for the most part but the Frenchman, supposedly a ‘sulker’ displayed enormous heart and scored United’s second by driving into the box.
