Chelsea suffered the worst possible start to the 2019/20 season on Sunday afternoon, following a 4-0 defeat to a clinical Manchester United side.
The Blues were competitive throughout at Old Trafford but ultimately were not good enough defensively, especially in the second-half as United took advantage of multiple errors at the back.
While Chelsea were on top for the majority of the first-half, it was a mistake at the back that allowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to take the lead.
Kurt Zouma brought Marcus Rashford down in the area with a needless tackle, and the striker converted emphatically from the spot to put United ahead, after Tammy Abraham had struck the post early on with a rasping effort.
Rashford, Anthony Martial and debutant Daniel James are capitalised on the Blues’ defensive frailties in the second-half to complete the scoring, but despite the result there were plenty of positives for Frank Lampard to take away.
With the ball, Chelsea looked a threat and had the two efforts that struck the frame of the goal gone in, then it would have been a completely different game.
Following the defeat, we’ve taken a look at who the winners and losers were for the Blues.
