Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be tempted by Inter Milan’s unwanted stars amidst uncertainty in the Manchester United ranks.
Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic are both understood to want out of the club for various reasons with the Serie A side keen on both.
United already have enough recruitment problems as it is and don’t need two of their key stars wanting out as well.
However, Solskjaer’s hands are tied and so he’ll be pleased to know Inter Milan are hoping to offload Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan.
Neither star fits his transfer policy but the duo could bring something to the Red Devils that they were previously missing.
According to the Mirror, Inter chief Beppe Marotta said: “When building a project, you have to find the right profiles.
“We had the opportunity to speak to the players themselves, with full respect for their contractual situations, but explained the position of the club, which I think is the most important thing.
“Both players know full well they are not part of our plans. That doesn’t mean we doubt their talent or capabilities, as I consider them to be two excellent players.
“Talent can win you games, but the squad wins you the league, which is the main objective we are setting out for. They are not part of our project, with all due respect.
“It’s one thing to say Icardi is on the market, which we have already confirmed, but quite another to respect contractual obligations.
“There is an agreement in the contract that the player must be allowed to take part in training and we have no intention of denying him that right.
“After that, the Coach is the one that will choose the line-up.”
Icardi would almost certainly replace Lukaku as they have similar statistics in terms of their goals scored.
However, some believe the Argentine is a troublemaker so it may be a transfer Manchester United will have to think twice about.
Meanwhile, Nainggolan would add some needed experience in Solskjaer’s youthful side while the extra bite he would bring to the midfield would be necessary.
Once again however, the Belgian is in the latter part of his career so bringing him in for Matic would not be much of an upgrade and United may be better off investing elsewhere.
