Chelsea have wrapped up the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid in a deal believed to be worth £40 million.
The Croatia international puts pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, which will keep him in West London until the summer of 2024.
Kovacic spent the duration of last season on loan with the Blues and evidently did enough to convince the club of his qualities despite playing under recently-departed boss Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea are currently serving a transfer ban, but have been able to make the former Inter Milan star’s stay permanent following his registration with the club at the time of the embargo.
Kovacic is now likely to play a key role under the Blues’ next manager – likely to be Frank Lampard – and will be keen to build on his maiden campaign in English football.
So, just who benefits from this deal, and who isn’t so lucky? We’ve taken a look at the winners and losers of the midfielder’s £40 million switch.
