Chelsea have reportedly opened contract talks with Mason Mount, with the midfielder the latest in the line of players looking to commit their futures to the club.
According to Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard, Chelsea are keen to reward Mount with a new long-term deal.
The impending appointment of Frank Lampard is thought to have been a key factor in the decision, with Mount likely to play some role in the first-team squad under the club’s former midfielder.
Mount impressed on loan at Derby County last season, where he worked alongside both Lampard and Jody Morris.
During his first season of senior football, he went on to play a key role in guiding the club to the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa.
The news surrounding Mount’s contract follows claims that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will put pen to paper on a new Chelsea deal, while youngster Juan Castillo, who looked set to leave, will also stay at the club beyond the summer.
