Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly hesitated on making a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, potentially infuriating fans in the process.
The chase for the Portuguese’s signature has heated up with both Tottenham and Liverpool joining the race for different reasons.
The London club believe Christian Eriksen’s desire for change could see him leave this summer meaning a replacement would be needed while those at Anfield must be hoping to keep a Champions League winning squad fresh.
Woodward and Manchester United arguably need Fernandes most after yet another disappointing season in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
The need for a midfielder has been made even more apparent by Ander Herrera‘s departure for free this summer.
According to the Mirror, O Jogo report that Ed is hesitant on signing off on a deal for Bruno as he is concerned on spending big on an untested player.
Perhaps Fred’s struggles after signing for a rather large fee from Shakhtar Donetsk has put the United chief off but this case is rather different.
Not only has Fernandes’ levels exceeded the Brazilian’s, he’s also been slowly becoming an important part of Portugal’s international setup.
Logically speaking however, Woodward’s concerns are a little understandable as his decision to sign Daniel James was on the basis of how cheap the player was.
