Manchester United’s transfer policy has certainly changed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management after their stance on Real Madrid star Gareth Bale was revealed.
The Welshman has been a target of the club for quite some time now but has never previously managed to secure a move.
The winger was seen as the perfect man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo’s superstar status though Madrid were always keen to hold onto him.
Despite that now changing, Solskjaer’s public statement of wanting to sign young, British talent was still needed to be put into action.
Daniel James was signed but now Bale’s attempts to secure a transfer to Old Trafford was a real tempting test for the Norwegian.
According to ESPN, the Red Devils rejected the chance to open talks with Gareth with Ole said to have other younger targets in mind such as Nicolas Pepe, Moussa Dembele and Ryan Fraser.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward would’ve previously jumped at the chance of signing the 29 year old simply due to the ability to commercialise and market such a move.
More importantly, the alternative targets have all had impressive seasons for their clubs and would quality to Manchester United’s overall squad.
Given their age, they would also last far longer than an injury prone Bale who the club would then struggle to offload.
