Manchester United target and Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt spoke about Premier League football in glowing terms after his country’s 3-1 UEFA Nations League success over England on Thursday night.
The defender is near the top of Man United’s list of priories this window following a stunning season as captain for Ajax.
Reports have suggested United are in with a chance of signing De Ligt. Barcelona, early favourites to sign the teenager, appear to have stalled in negotiations and the prospect of becoming central to a rebuild project at Old Trafford appeals to De Ligt, who has played a similar role with Ajax over the last three seasons.
Speaking after reaching the Nations League final against Portugal, De Ligt once again remained coy about his future but did give a warm appraisal of Premier League football.
Matthijs de Ligt: “Obviously the Premier League is a great competition, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’m still looking at what to do.” #mulive [talksport]

We have not been in short supply of De Ligt quotes in recent weeks. The chatter coming from his camp is deliberate, geared towards a certain end, and at the very least suggests that things remain up in the air, that his next destination is not yet confirmed. Sending out these quotes when a move to Barcelona has been agreed does not make a lot of sense.
Either way, the talking will stop soon. De Ligt plans to announce his next destination after the final against Portugal on Sunday.
