Manchester United have confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Swansea City to make winger Daniel James the club’s first signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
James emerged on the club’s radar as part of a redirection of transfer strategy towards signing younger talents who can evolve at Old Trafford, rather than the ready-made talents which Jose Mourinho habitually signed.
The deal is believed to cost around £15m with a further £3m in potential add-ons. An official announcement – which has been delayed by the unexpected passing of James’ father – is expected to happen next week.
Man United have announced that a deal in principle with Swansea has been struck ahead of James joining up with his teammates later this month.

In James, United have a player who is young, plays direct, plays out wide, and who can only get better under the right conditions.
Make no mistake: Solskjaer will want to use James. He will need to. The fading influence of Juan Mata, combined with the unreliability of Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, gives James a genuine chance to impose his low-center-of-gravity-like pace on this team.
More importantly, Solskjaer clearly sees James as a player with the ideal attitude. Young, utterly determined, brimming with talent, somewhat playing at a higher level that he possibly expected. You can bet he will die on the pitch for his manager.
