Manchester United interest in Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes has reportedly taken a turn for the worse as it emerged that they’re being challenged by another club.
The Portuguese star has been a target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s for a while now and given how Paul Pogba has publicly announced a desire to leave, the need for his signature is even more desperate.
It was believed the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham all pulled out of the race for Fernandes, leaving United with a clear shot at signing him.
An announcement was meant to be imminent as it shouldn’t have taken long to complete a deal for Fernandes if there were no complications.
However, Solskjaer’s side have perhaps stalled for too long as reports have come through revealing a Spanish club have placed a bid on the midfielder.
According to the Mirror, A Bola report that Atletico Madrid have bid £44.6m for Bruno, putting the Red Devils’ chances at signing him at risk.
The La Liga giants have Champions League football to offer while Ole’s men only managed to qualify for the Europa League.
What Manchester United do have working in their favour is that they could probably offer more wages than the more cash-strapped Atletico side but it remains to be seen whether that’s enough to secure their target.
