Manchester United have reportedly turned their attentions to Benfica star Ruben Dias, closing in on the transfer after initially chasing Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Senegalese has become a target of Europe’s top clubs after a fantastic few seasons for the Italian side and so links to Old Trafford were natural.
United’s defensive woes are well known and the lack of leadership at the back is staggering which is why it was believed Kalidou was initially targeted.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now believed to be after Dias instead and it appears a transfer may be closer than initially thought.
Benfica were said to be keen on increasing the asking price for the Portuguese star but that now seems unlikely to happen.
According to the Express, A Bola report that Kalidou would’ve costed the Red Devils €96m whereas Ruben will cost less at €60m, making him the cheaper, younger alternative to their first-choice target.
The fee stated does seem a little expensive but Solskjaer would be paying for the youngster’s potential rather than his actual current ability.
This wouldn’t be the first time Manchester United raided Benfica for their defensive players having previously done so with Jose Mourinho and Victor Lindelof.
