Frank Lampard has told the Chelsea hierarchy he wants former team-mate and club legend Didier Drogba to join his coaching staff at Stamford Bridge, according to a report.
Drogba, who had thrown his support behind Lampard to be a success at Chelsea as manager in recent months, is rumoured to have had lunch with Lampard in the last week.
It is very possible Lampard relayed his desire to bring Drogba back to the club and he’s believed to be relishing the opportunity of returning to the club where he holds legendary status.
It is understood he will be joined by his current assistant at Derby, Jody Morris with Shay Given and Drogba also being lined up for coaching positions.
To the surprise of some, however, current Aston Villa coach John Terry is not believed to be considered for a role in Lampard’s Chelsea.
As yet, it is not clear where current assistant manager Gianfranco Zola’s future lies as it is rumoured he is not willing to accept a demotion.
The departure of Maurizio Sarri could be confirmed any day now, with Lampard now looking like the only serious candidate to replace the departing Italian.
With a two-window transfer ban in place, Lampard will have to make do with what he has at the club already.
This could see young players who Lampard worked with at Derby like Mason Mount given a chance in the Chelsea first team.
