Manchester United have been dealt a heavy blow by Lyon star Tanguy Ndombele after admitting interest in Tottenham amidst uncertainty over his future.
The Frenchman appears to be set to leave the Ligue 1 side but no real moves have been made and so it seems he’s taken matters into his own side.
Both Premier League clubs are said to be racing for the midfielder’s signature with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on bringing him in as part of his rebuild.
Ndombele would add steels to United’s otherwise soft midfield and given Paul Pogba’s public desire to depart, the need to sign him is even more desperate.
Ander Herrera has already left on a free transfer and Marouane Fellaini was sold in the January transfer window meaning a midfielder was already required.
According to the Mirror, Tanguy said: “Yes, it’s true that Tottenham are a great team.
“They are a big club, they finished fourth in their league, they reached the Champions League final, they are still a big club like any other.
“Which player would not be interested in a big club?”
It’s clear Champions League football is important to Ndombele and so it makes Manchester United’s efforts that much more difficult.
Solskjaer’s side only have Europa League football to offer but their ability to pay the youngster high wages could still attract him.
Tottenham are also known for being strapped for cash so they may not even be able to place a bid for Tanguy despite his ‘come and get me plea’.
