Chelsea have been handed an injury boost ahead of next season after X-rays confirmed that youngster Reece James did not suffer a broken ankle whist playing for England’s Under-20s on Friday.
James enjoyed a fine campaign on loan with Wigan last season, and has emerged as one of Chelsea’s brightest young prospects, with many calling for his inclusion in the first team for the 2019/20 campaign.
The versatile defender was stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle during England U20’s defeat to Chile on Friday, after receiving oxygen whilst on the pitch.
However, according to Yahoo Sport via Goal, X-rays have confirmed that the defender “suffered a heavy sprain to ankle ligaments,” easing fears that the 19-year-old had broken his ankle.
James will now return from international duty to be assessed by Chelsea’s medical staff, as the club look to assess the extent of the 19-year-old’s injury and determine how long the defender will be ruled out for.
