Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin will miss the start of next season despite previous hopes that he would return early (via The Standard).
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Hector Bellerin in an Arsenal shirt.
The right-back ruptured his cruciate knee ligament in a match against Chelsea earlier this year and hasn’t played since.
The 24-year-old has been recovering ever since and is said to be progressing well despite that expected 6-9 month layoff.
There were some who hoped that Bellerin would return in time for pre-season training this summer ahead of the new season but that will not be the case.
The English media has reported that Bellerin will miss the start of the season with no return date currently set.
The Spaniard’s spot in the starting lineup has been taken by Ainsley Maitland-Niles in recent months and the Englishman will have to continue in the role in the months to come.
It’s a bit of a blow for Unai Emery. Hector Bellerin was one of Arsenal’s best players during the first half of Arsenal’s season last year and was sorely missed. Ainsley Maitland-Niles coped well in his absence but the sooner Bellerin is back in action, the better.
