Manchester United have been dealt a significant blow in the David de Gea transfer saga as summer rumours go into overdrive.
The Spaniard is arguably Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s only world-class player in an overpaid and underachieving squad.
United have been attempting to tie down the goalkeeper once more having successfully warded Real Madrid’s interest in the past.
De Gea’s contract only has a year remaining with negotiations between both parties going on for far too long.
The former Atletico Madrid man is understood to be rightfully considering where he should spend the remaining years of his peak at.
According to the Daily Record, Duncan Castles claims Ajax have rejected the Red Devils move to purchase Andre Onana as a replacement for the potentially departing David.
The Dutch side have been surrounded by vultures attempting to pick apart their side and despite already selling Frenkie de Jong, they don’t appear ready to let go of their goalkeeper.
Onana would represent the kind of signing Solskjaer is said to be keen on- young, capable and still having tonnes of potential left.
It would be difficult for Manchester United to be able to find a direct replacement for De Gea in terms of pure talent and so it makes sense to target someone who could grow as a player but unfortunately Ajax are holding firm.
