Manchester United are close to striking a deal worth £15m to sign Swansea City winger Daniel James, according to sources at Sky Sports.
The club has placed emphasis on finding a natural wide player capable of inflicting damage from both flanks, with reports suggesting Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi were both targets.
James, however, is a realistic option and a name which has come from nowhere. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a superb season with Swansea, making 24 appearances in all competitions.

The first thing that strikes you about James is how he is not, by any stretch, a marquee name nor a ready-made talent. He is a player who Solskjaer believes can develop.
That kind of thinking alone marks a significant departure from the days of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Angel Di Maria. Solskjaer emphasised during Friday’s press conference that United would look for players with the right core attitude and whose talents can be nurtured, under the right conditions, into something approximating United DNA.
Ole: “Next season we have to close that gap, if we manager to get to February or March and still be close then that’s fantastic. No it’s not just about ready-made players. We’ve never been a ready-made club.” #mufc [Sky]

For years, United have neglected the idea of building a team around a particular player profile. To see Solskjaer moving in this direction is an encouraging start to what needs to be an emphatic transfer window at Old Trafford.
