Roma are looking to pay a £5m-a-year deal in order to bring Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri to Stadio Olimpico this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, the Italian side are willing to match the head coach’s current wages at Chelsea in an attempt to replace their current boss Claudio Ranieri, who only signed a contract in February for the remainder of the season.
However, it is Sarri at the top of their list after ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte turned down a proposed move to Roma.
Sarri’s contract when signing for the Blues last July has the man in West London for two years, with the option to extend it a further 12 months.
Although Sarri has expressed his intentions of wanting to stay in London, his future is still up in the air, despite the 60-year-old landing in a Champions League spot this season and a possibly the Europa League trophy, should they qualify and win the final.
Sarri has been linked with numerous Serie A jobs, including Inter and AC Milan.
Should the Italian remain at Stamford Bridge this summer, he will have a tough job in shaping the team if the Blues are to compete in the Champions League as Chelsea’s transfer ban has been upheld, meaning there may be no signings for the next two windows.
