Chelsea's stadium plans takes a new turn as Stamford Bridge exit emerges as a possible plan

Chelsea are looking at a potential re-homing with talk of a move away from Stamford Bridge, the Mirror reports.

The West London club have been looking to upgrade the stadium for some time, with plans to increase its 41,631 capacity to 60,000. However, the location of the stadium makes it difficult; it is very close to main roads and public transport lines.

Instead, there have been talks of the Blues looking for a new site completely in an effort to save £500m.

The development plans on the stadium have risen to £1bn, originally budgeted at £500m. These plans involve construction over a number of train lines, including two railway lines the District line of the London Underground, as well as the Southern mainline. Also planned for the stadium is the addition of trusses to the roof, implementing columns around the stadium.

The idea to upgrade the stadium has been on hold since Chelsea announced last May that there would be no further pre-construction and planning work.

Although remaining at Stamford Bridge is their preferred decision, Blues’ management have some locations considered for a completely new site. This includes Earls Court, White City, the Imperial Road Gasworks, Chelsea Barracks, and Battersea Power Station.

With London rivals Tottenham Hotspur completing their new state-of-the-art stadium (currently named the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) with a capacity of 62,062, Chelsea will be looking to improve their capacity whether that means improving Stamford Bridge or moving to a new area entirely.
