Solskjaer singles out this star for praise after West Ham win

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Fred’s development in recent matches, following the win over West Ham.

The Norwegian watched on as his players dragged themselves to a somewhat lucky 2-1 victory against the London club.

Fred was one of United’s better performers on the day and it came just a few days after his inspiring display vs Barcelona.

The Brazilian had a poor start to his career at Old Trafford but has come good of late under Solskjaer.

Fred’s timing couldn’t be better given the injuries to Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera and he could prove crucial in the run in.

According to the official Manchester United website, Ole said: “I have to say, he’s growing into his place and his position.

“It’s difficult to come to a new country. He’s had loads of difficulties with injuries, like niggles. Then when I came in, he didn’t come to Dubai with us because [his wife was having] a baby.

“So, now he’s growing into his position and I’ve been very pleased with his last few games. I think you can all see why we believe in him. He’s got such a great confidence and attitude. He loves to have the ball, he loves to smile.”

Fred has more than earned his starts and it’s a relief he’s improved given his price-tag last summer.

The midfielder was signed for over £50m and could’ve ended up a waste of money despite being the only major signing of last year.

Fred’s versatility helps him as well as he has played as a defensive midfielder and a central midfielder.

More importantly the former Shakhtar Donetsk man has proven himself a capable all-rounder, equally able at winning the ball back as he is at putting in a defence splitting pass to his marauding teammates.
