Solskjaer lays down gauntlet for Man United players ahead of Barcelona

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent his players an inspiring message ahead of the clash against Barcelona.

The Norwegian couldn’t muster up a home win against the Spanish side who won 1-0 at Old Trafford in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

United now travel to the Nou Camp with the difficult task of beating Barcelona at home but they will feel confident given their heroics against PSG in the last round.

Solskjaer was a part of the club’s more historic sides and knows just what it means to write history.

The Red Devils haven’t been impressive in their performances of late but all it will take is an early goal to unsettle the home side.

According to the Mirror, Ole said: “We do talk a lot about the history of the club at times like this.

“It was something we did before the PSG game – telling the players that this club had produced some remarkable comebacks in the past – and that will be message again.

“And if we can do it against Barcelona then it will be one of THE biggest and most legendary performances in this club’s history.

“That’s what the players sign up for when they come here – the chance to be a hero and a legend. They must rise to the occasion.”

Solskjaer has clearly set the standard for his players and hopefully they can respond this Tuesday.

Getting to the semi-finals after beating PSG, Juventus and Barcelona won’t be something that happened purely on luck.

Manchester United would then have to be considered a serious contender for Europe’s elite trophy but it could be argued their focus is better spent on the Premier League.

Ever point matters now with the race for the top four being as relenting as it has been so far.
