Manchester City kept a close eye on Chelsea target Luka Jovic as Benfica defeated Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.
The Bundesliga club locked horns with the Portuguese giants in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final fixture but were unsuccessful, as a Joao Felix hat-trick inspired the Liga NOS outfit to a 4-2 win.
According to a report from Football London, City director Txiki Begiristain was in attendance to watch the Portuguese playmaker in action, but also monitored the performance of Eintracht Frankfurt star Jovic.
The Serbian international found the back of the net five minutes before half-time but couldn’t prevent his side’s defeat in Portugal.
Jovic has been in excellent form for his team throughout the season and is the Bundesliga’s second top goalscorer, with 17 to his name.
His displays have attracted interest from across Europe, with Chelsea understood to be keen on luring him away from Frankfurt this summer.
Adi Hutter’s side are likely to activate their purchase option at the end of Jovic’s two-year loan deal from Benfica before then assessing offers from prestigious clubs across the continent.
The Blues are evidently keen on adding a new striker to their ranks, but it seems Manchester City are closely watching the 21-year-old as he continues to shine.
