Manchester United are reportedly preparing for David de Gea‘s potential departure by putting together a shortlist of replacements.
The Spaniard is widely considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world so losing him for free would be a disaster.
The goalkeeper’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2020 and although the club have opened up negotiations, there doesn’t appear to be a breakthrough.
De Gea is said to be after a huge pay raise but United are unwilling to accept his terms and are already on the lookout for other candidates to bring in.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward must take the blame for allowing the former Atletico Madrid man’s contract run so close to its end.
According to Who Scored, the Daily Mirror report that the Red Devils have targeted Jordan Pickford and Jan Oblak as potential replacements for David.
The Everton star has had a bit of a reputation as an unsteady pair of gloves while the Slovenian has been outstanding in Spain for several seasons now.
Oblak has been heavily protected by a solid defence with Atletico though so his skills may be called into question at Manchester United.
Either way, he’s likely to cost a tonne of money so not giving De Gea what he wants hardly makes any sense.
