Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will reportedly land the permanent role soon with the players said to be delighted with him.
The Norwegian was hired only as a caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal back in December and has performed far beyond expectations.
Many believed Solskjaer was only at the club to lift the mood while the board attempt to find the Portuguese’s permanent successor.
However, the former Molde man has had an outstanding effect on the squad with the latest 3-1 win over PSG proving too great to ignore.
United had done the impossible having been beaten by the French champions 2-0 at home just weeks before.
According to ESPN, the Red Devils’ players and senior figures believe it’s just a matter of time before Ole gets the job, hoping the appointment happens before May.
It previously made sense for the board to remain patient before making any knee-jerk decisions but it’s clear to see he is the right man for the job, at least for now.
If the Manchester United board are concerned whether the Solskjaer effect will last long-term they can always offer him a short-term contract instead.
A year or two extension will be enough to see whether he will be capable of leading the team to glory whilst shaping them in his image.
