Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only had praise for Sergio Romero following his side’s poor 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The prestigious trophy was the club’s most realistic shot at any silverware this season and fans were disappointed with the players’ tame efforts to advance to the semi-final.
Wolves were worthy winners but it’s safe to say United never truly showed up and the scoreline could’ve been worse had it not been for Romero.
Solskjaer had harsh words for his squad but reserved special praise for the Argentine as he kept the scoreline at a respectable number.
The Red Devils now only have the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Barcelona to focus on and the race for a top four spot in the Premier League.
According to the Express, Ole said: “Sergio made some fantastic saves – he’s played really well again.
“But that’s disappointing because they had the better of the chances. They deserved the win.
“Sergio kept us in the game with a fantastic performance from him again but we never put their keeper under pressure.”
Manchester United supporters have constantly praised Romero for being the best back-up goalkeeper in the world and he is worthy of that title.
In fact, fans are often baffled as to why the keeper doesn’t move elsewhere to feature more regularly as he is a quality player.
Nonetheless, Sergio appears to be happy at United and so long as he’s here, supporters will enjoy watching him perform to a high level.
