Maurizio Sarri has insisted Chelsea will fight for their place in the Premier League top four this season ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Wolves, where a win would see them leapfrog Manchester United and Arsenal into fourth.
Chelsea currently lie in sixth, two points behind United and one behind Arsenal which has made the race for a top-four place nicely poised going into the final 10 games of the season.
Sarri’s side are in pole position for a Champions League spot next season, despite United’s resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and he’s reassured reporters the club will fight until the end for a place in Europe’s A competition.
We will be fighting for the top four until the last minute of the last match. Every match will be important in our future. We have two big opportunities, this match [against Wolves], and when we play the match [in hand] against Brighton. In five matches we conceded only one goal. We are improving in consistency, we are improving in defensive solidity, but we have to be careful.
The Blues host Wolves at Stamford Bridge a couple of hours before Arsenal and United face off at the Emirates Stadium across town, which means they could be sitting fourth with a game in hand at the end of the weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men won’t be pushovers at the Bridge though, as they search for European football next term themselves, and there certainly isn’t much room for slip-ups now.
