Former Chelsea and Spurs man Glenn Hoddle has suggested that the Blues may struggle to keep hold of Olivier Giroud over the summer.
Speaking as part of BT Sport’s coverage of Chelsea’s emphatic Europa League win on Thursday night, as reported by the Express, Hoddle explains that the Frenchman will have his fair share of suitors.
I think his contract’s coming up this summer, isn’t it? I think there’ll be a few that are sniffing around. He could easily walk into a few teams. Today he was creative as well. He created a lot of things off him so his all-round game today was excellent.
Giroud started in the Europa League tie, a competition where he has found the lion’s share of his football come from this season, and scored a hat-trick to help the Blues into the last eight.
The striker’s contract expires in the summer but the club does hold the option to trigger a one-year extension should they wish to.
He showed his class once again on Thursday night as his three goals to make him the top scorer in the Europa League.
Giroud has been unable to nail down a regular starting place in the Premier League with Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata previously ahead of him in the pecking order.
