FIFA has confirmed it has received Chelsea’s appeal against the two window transfer ban imposed for allegedly breaching regulations with regards to signing international players under the age of 18, The Associated Press has reported.
Though Chelsea’s appeal has been received by FIFA, football’s governing body is yet to decide whether the ban will be frozen during the legal proceedings.
FIFA had initially handed the Blues the two window transfer ban after a three year investigation revealed 29 cases in which the club had breached the rules, relating to the transfer of players under the age of 18.
Sky Sports reported last month that one of the most controversial breaches by Chelsea had been with regards to the transfer of Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore in 2013.
Chelsea “categorically” refuted the charge and have subsequently appealed the decision, which FIFA confirms has now been received.
The Blues’ appeal could buy them time to potentially sign players for the next two transfer windows given how long the legal process can take, and historically FIFA have not enforced the transfer ban during an appeal’s process.
