Callum Hudson-Odoi has been called up by Gareth Southgate to the England senior squad for their European Championship qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro.
Twitter: “It’s been a crazy day…”
Congratulations on your first #ThreeLions call-up, Callum Hudson-Odoi! (@England)
The 18-year-old Chelsea winger was initially named in the Under-21 squad, where he is yet to make his debut.
However, injuries have forced England boss Southgate to reshuffle his pack for this set of qualifiers, having lost John Stones and Fabian Delph from Manchester City, alongside Blues midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, to injury.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse has been given the call-up following the injuries, as well as Hudson-Odoi, who hasn’t yet started a Premier League fixture for Chelsea.
This will be a delight for the Blues winger, who is very much in demand with Chelsea having fought off strong interest from German giants Bayern Munich in the summer.
Hudson-Odoi has been impressive in the team’s Europa League fixtures this season and will be desperate now to feature on the international stage.
