Chelsea were reportedly one of several Premier League clubs to be in attendance of Benfica’s Europa League tie against Dinamo Zagreb this week, to watch young starlet Joao Felix.
Benfica won 3-0 to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, with Felix coming off the bench to play the final half hour for the Eagles.
According to A Bola, as reported by Sport Witness, the Blues were in attendance to watch the 19-year old forward, who has attracted interest from a number of clubs this season.
As well as the Blues, other clubs in attendance included: Manchester United, Manchester City, Wolves, Watford, Everton, Fulham, Tottenham, Newcastle and Leicester.
Reports last month suggested that West Ham were serious contenders for the youngsters signature. Those reports weren’t clear on Felix’s price tag, with some sources suggesting he would cost €30-€40million, while others suggest a much higher release clause of €120million.
Chelsea’s interest does seem strange however, with the club’s transfer ban unlikely to be lifted this summer.
