Maurizio Sarri believes Chelsea “deserved” more than a draw against Wolves, despite needing a 90th minute equaliser from Eden Hazard to salvage a point against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The Blues failed to make their dominance pay against Wolves despite seeing over 75 per cent of the ball throughout, and fell behind just 10 minutes into the second half.
Nuno’s side hit Chelsea on the counter attack and Raul Jimenez managed to bundle the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga despite Cesar Azpilicueta’s best efforts.
And despite needing a stoppage time equaliser from Hazard, Blues boss Sarri believes his side deserved more than a point on Sunday, according to football.london.
I think that we made a lot of mistakes but we deserved to win. The first situation inside our box, the first and the last, we were unlucky for that but we need to improve in attacking way when the team defend deep with 11 players. We needed to move faster, without the ball and in the space behind the line. We played with five touches, that is difficult to score. A very physical team and we need to improve.
Chelsea moved level on points with fifth placed Arsenal following the draw, prior to the Gunners’ clash with fourth placed Manchester United, who are a point ahead.
And despite still having a game in hand on both of their top four rivals, Sarri believes his side missed an opportunity to strengthen their push for the top four against Wolves.
When you have only ten matches every chance you don’t win is a missed opportunity.
In this moment, in the last 6 matches, we have won four and drawn two so there is a little consistency in this moment. We have to think only to the next match. We need to recover two points immediately.
