Player ratings: United smash Fulham, Pogba and Martial world class

David de Gea 6 – Only had one genuinely challenging save to make. A very trouble-free afternoon.

Diogo Dalot 7 – Quietly very impressive. Kept a good defensive position, displayed strength, and showed good zip going forward down the right hand side.

Phil Jones 7 – Comfortable performance from the Englishman, fresh from receiving a new contract. Claimed an assist and even nearly scored a screamer.

Chris Smalling 6 – Had a truly chaotic start, making two unforced errors in the opening five minutes, but steadied himself well after that.

Luke Shaw 7 – Another militantly energetic performance, up and down the left like an enthusiastic Labrador all game. Manipulated the ball nicely.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Steady, controlled, powerful. Always seemed to be in the right position and recycled play efficiently.

Ander Herrera 7 – A decisive performance. The Spaniard’s tenacity in midfield precluded Fulham from getting the ball forward and kept the pressure firmly on the hosts.

Paul Pogba 8 – Streets ahead of the rest. Almost unfair at times against a hapless Fulham midfield. Scored a superb opener, lashing the ball into the top of the net, and killed the game with a penalty – his 11th Premier League goal of the season – in the second half. Magnificent.

Juan Mata 6 – Occasionally frustrating to watch. Appeared to lack the agility to manipulate key playing areas at times but grew nicely into the game, holding the ball masterfully.

Anthony Martial 7.5 – Scintillating. Terrorised Fulham all game with his running. Laid on an assist for Pogba and then scored one of the goals of the season, collecting the ball inside his own half before gliding into Fulham’s box to score.

Romelu Lukaku 5 – You can tell the Belgian is not feeling like himself. Herrera, on a couple of occasions, grew visibly angry at his lack of pressing. His lack of presence in the box – especially in a game like this – was even more disconcerting.
