Unai Emery didn’t pull any punches in the wake of victory against Chelsea at the weekend, with the result overshadowed by injury to Hector Bellerin, the manager admitted it may be an “important injury.”
The Mirror follow-up today by reporting that the Frenchman may indeed be out for the rest of the season, if true dealing a massive blow to the Gunners’ top four hopes – Hector Bellerin has been ever present this season with 19 Premier League appearances and five assists.
The report says that the worry at the club is that Bellerin has injured his ACL, if so then fans would be resigned to losing the right-back for sometime and it’s not a surprise to hear he may miss the rest of the campaign.
This of course would be the worst case scenario ahead of the club itself confirming the details of the injury to the 23-year old – a scan on the injury is expected shortly where the extent of the layoff will be revealed.
Unai Emery spoke at the post-match press conference stating that; “… it can be an important injury. I hope not, but first impressions are not positive.”
With the club only supposedly targeting loan deals in the January transfer window, it may mean that the club turn to players such as Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Stephan Lichtsteiner to fill the gap left by Bellerin.
