Jose Mourinho received a pay-off package worth around £15m from Manchester United after he was sacked from his position as manager on Tuesday.
The 55-year-old was removed after overseeing the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season. He was videoed leaving the Lowry Hotel, where he had been staying since moving to Manchester, on Tuesday afternoon, looking decidedly healthier.

There was a consensus forming among supporters and indeed journalists that Man United, having handed Mourinho a fresh contract back in December, just 18 months after he took the job, were reluctant to sack the 55-year-old because it would cost so much. The plan, it seemed, was to wait until top four was no longer possible – just like they did with David Moyes and Louis van Gaal – before pushing the button, thereby making the package cheaper.
But to the shock of everyone, Ed Woodward and the Glazers have made a smart, football-centered decision by pushing the button now, keeping the whole thing totally quiet in the process. And according to Ogden, the severance package for Mourinho is valued at about £15m.
Mourinho pay-off approx £15m. A hefty fee or money well spent…?

Mourinho looked like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders as he left the Lowry Hotel. He can now treat himself to a decent bottle of wine, and perhaps a holiday somewhere warm and quiet. The man certainly needs it.
