Arsenal considering shock swoop for Chelsea defender

Arsenal are considering a shock loan swoop for Chelsea central defender Gary Cahill in January.

According to ESPN, Cahill is one of two main centre-back targets in the coming transfer window. The report claims that Arsenal are looking at Cahill and Manchester United centre-back Eric Bailly.

The Gunners are looking to replace Rob Holding, who has been ruled out of action until the end of the season after suffering ligament damage last week in a draw against United.

Cahill is free to leave Chelsea on loan next month after Maurizio Sarri decided that he is not in his plans going forward.

A host of clubs have been linked with Cahill, including West Ham, Aston Villa and Southampton.

ESPN do claim, however, that it could be difficult for Arsenal to secure a deal as Chelsea may not want to strengthen a rival in the Premier League.

Bailly appears to be Arsenal’s first-choice over Cahill, at this moment in time.
