Manchester United travel to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday to play an AFC Bournemouth side sitting above them in the table.
A win for Jose Mourinho’s eighth placed team would bring them level on points with Bournemouth, who are in fifth spot following an impressive start to the campaign.
The boss has confirmed that attacking pair Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard were back to full fitness after over a month away from the starting XI, adding that Marouane Fellaini, Diogo Dalot and Antonio Valencia were still injured.
With that in mind, here are three players who Mourinho must start against Bournemouth.
Fred
The midfielder received a rare start against Everton and his handling of the ball at the base of midfield was crucial in allowing for Man United to express themselves further up the pitch.
He is a technically gifted player, capable of solid close control under pressure and beating the press. Those qualities will come in handy against an energetic Bournemouth team which will look to take hold of game by packing the midfield.
Alexis Sanchez
The Chilean is back to good fitness and will be chomping at the bit to unleash himself against Bournemouth. And Mourinho, who dropped Romelu Lukaku against Everton, would be smart to keep the Belgian on the bench and put Sanchez at the masthead of attack.
United’s build-up play in the final third would, you suspect, feel a whole lot smoother and quicker. Sanchez at the very least deserves a chance to show what he can do there.
Victor Lindelof
It has gone relatively unnoticed that Victor Lindelof, over the last three games, has produced his best football in a United shirt. He is playing with verve and composure, visibly growing in stature and temperament. Against Juventus, he was the only player who received praise after the game.
Mourinho has no reason at all to leave him out.
