Jose Mourinho has been unimpressed so far by Fred’s start at Manchester United and he has fallen way down in the pecking order at the club, according to The Independent‘s chief writer Miguel Delaney.
Fred has made eight appearances so far this season for Man United but hasn’t been able to cement a regular place in Mourinho’s starting XI. Instead, he’s been in and out of the team and all fans will say he’s underwhelmed so far overall.
Delaney discusses how Fred’s slow start to his United career and the fact Mourinho specifically wanted to bring him to United is a bad sign, one which highlights why the club is unwilling to sign every player that Mourinho wants to bring to the club.
As far as fans are concerned, we’ll all remain patient with Fred like we do with every signing. Victor Lindelof would have been given the cold shoulder by many other fanbases but United fans supported him and he’s now starting to show the sort of form that warranted his purchase in the first place. Fans will be hoping for a similar growth curve with Fred.
He won’t be sold by United this summer, at least he shouldn’t be, but it is a worrying sign of the times that another major signing has come to United and hasn’t had the same sort of impact that fans or Mourinho expected him to have.
