Jose Mourinho wants to invest in a striker as well as a central defender in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The 55-year-old desperately wanted to sign a defender in the summer, targeting Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire, but the club refused to provide their backing.
Romelu Lukaku’s poor form of late, failing to score for over 800 minutes, has prompted many into suggesting Manchester United move for some backup for the Belgian in January.
And according to M.E.N, Mourinho has indeed resolved to pursue another striker who could provide competition for Lukaku alongside a central defender in January.
The Portuguese’s interest in a central defender is no secret. Alessio Romagnoli and Nikola Milenkovic are two players he likes in that position. Full-back Milan Skriniar, who impressed for Croatia at the World Cup, is another player he wants to sign.
When it comes to options up front, however, Mourinho’s wish-list is far more ambiguous. Gianluca di Marzio confirmed over the summer that the 55-year-old had an interest in Mario Mandzukic, but it seems unlikely that the Croat would leave Juventus.
Either way, early signs indicate that Mourinho will not receive the backing he needs in January – a notably difficult time for securing deals – to improve his team.
