Manchester United have pipped Manchester City to the signing of highly rated Polish defender Lukasz Bejger, according to reports.
The 16-year-old came through Lech Poznan’s academy and, having made his debut for the Poland Under-16 last September, now captains the side following a series of commanding performances at the back.
Bejger, who would be the first Pole to ever feature for Man United, travelled to England last August ahead of trials with Man United and Man City.
And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, United finalised a deal to sign Bejger – capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back – in January and will include him among their academy intake for the 2018/19 season.
United boast a genuinely exciting array of young talent at the back which could, with the right guidance, lay the foundation for a new generation of homegrown defensive assets.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe, Demetri Mitchell, Joe Riley and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have all demonstrated their worth in the first team over the last couple of seasons, while the likes of Matt Olosunde and Tyrell Warren have been knocking on the door of Jose Mourinho’s first team.
Bejger will no doubt look to them for inspiration as he attempts to establish himself at United next season.
