Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted his side missed Paul Pogba in the clash against Manchester City on Sunday evening.
The Frenchman was unfortunately absent after exerting himself against Juventus midweek and there are reports he’ll even avoid going on international duty.
Mourinho’s men suffered a 3-1 loss at the Etihad which left them 12 points away from top spot with his position at the club once again under threat.
Though he’s under less pressure than before, the former Chelsea manager has to start picking up points soon or else risk finishing out of the top four.
Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini started in midfield for United and the first two had absolute stinkers in the loss.
Speaking after the defeat, Jose said: “One thing is to bring on a fresh Fellaini, and another is to have him on from the start. So yes, we missed Pogba today.”
It was clear the Belgian faded towards the end of the clash but he was actually the best midfielder on the day otherwise.
Marouane was his usual effective self against the opposition’s defence but he was also impressive in terms of his defensive work.
Not only was Pogba’s creativity missing today but his ability to hold onto the ball was also something the Red Devils’ midfield sorely lacked against City’s more fluid and impressive engine room.
