Jose Mourinho has criticized Manchester United’s sloppy handling of the ball following his side’s 3-1 defeat in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
The 55-year-old’s side lost possession in the middle on far too many occasions during a dominant first half for the home side.
Man City’s second goal underlined Man United’s wastefulness in possession: an under-hit pass from David de Gea, Jesse Lingard miss-controlling it, followed by a goal moments later.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho noted how his side’s poor handling of possession in key moments was the main reason behind their defeat at the Ethiad.
Mourinho to Sky: 'Against a team like City, if you make mistakes you will get punished… We cannot lose the ball the way we did. It is not about David de Gea, it is about the way we lost the ball.' #mufc

Mourinho has often spoken of how opening his team up, encouraging pressing and expansive passing, only serves to sacrifice a measure of control.
Implicit in that notion is the belief that these United players are not good enough to pass with more ambition and range, or that they are at least better off playing more compact. And that, I’m afraid, is fundamentally untrue.
This is a team full of sensational talent and it is Mourinho’s tactical choices, not the inherent shortcomings of his players, which underpin why they have failed to tangibly improve as a passing unit in two and a half years.
