Unai Emery has revealed the extent of the injury sustained by Danny Welbeck last week (via Arsenal.com).
It was such a shame to see Danny Welbeck go down injured in the 0-0 draw with Sporting CP last Thursday.
The Englishman has struggled with injuries throughout his Arsenal career and sadly, that trend continued last week.
The Arsenal players were visibly moved by Welbeck’s injury and now, head coach Unai Emery has confirmed that the former Manchester United man suffered a broken ankle.
“He had an operation on Friday,” Emery said after the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
“I think it’s better for the doctor to say to you. It’s a big injury but the outcome… the doctor can answer that better than me.
“Danny Welbeck’s injury is a big injury. We spoke with him yesterday and today. We support him with our personal relationship between the player and the staff.”
It certainly looked like one for Danny Welbeck but it’s still a shame that the ankle break has been confirmed. It’s a nasty injury and it’s unclear when we will see Welbeck in an Arsenal shirt again – if ever – considering that his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
