Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has hit out at Everton winger Bernard and after their off the ball altercation during the 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
As reported on the Daily Mail, the duo clashed in the second half of the match and Rudiger has slammed the Brazilian for diving and then headbutting him.
Both players were shown a yellow card by referee Kevin Friend and Rudiger simply can’t believe how he was at fault for the collision.
The German international believes that Bernard would have seen red if VAR was being used in the Premier League this season.
He said:
If in England we have VAR then I think Bernard has a problem. He was diving and I told him to stand up, and then I was standing and he came with a lot of speed and hit me with his forehead, and I get a yellow card. To me, that’s a joke.
The referee didn’t see anything. It was like the fourth official maybe he said something to him, that maybe I provoked him or something. I just said: Stand up.
I don’t even tackle someone or do something and I get booked – for being headbutted. Sorry, but that is a joke. Of course, that is annoying. But I have to accept it.
Maybe it would have changed the game and maybe not. But I know one thing for sure, if we had VAR, he is off.
The Blues have lost ground on Liverpool and Manchester City in the title race, who both picked up wins this weekend.
