Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal to sign Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid this summer.

Kovacic joined Chelsea on a season-long loan from Real Madrid as part of the deal to take Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

However, it has been suggested that the Spanish giants still have high hopes for the player and hope he can be the long-term replacement for Luka Modric.
Kovacic has impressed since joining Chelsea on loan, but the form of both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley has meant competition for places in high.
With Mason Mount also due to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, the Blues could be looking to the future in a bid to give their youngsters a chance.
