Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter sustained an ankle injury in the England Under-21s’ win over Italy Under-21s on Thursday evening.
The Young Lions came away from Ferrara with an impressive 2-1 win, courtesy of a brace from former Chelsea youth striker Dominic Solanke, who now plies his trade at Liverpool.
However, a dampener was put on the night for England as Clarke-Salter hobbled off in visible pain.
Clarke-Salter, who is currently enjoying a loan spell in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem, sustained the injury early on in the match and was unable to continue after suffering an ankle problem.
The 21-year-old has been playing an involved role with Vitesse. He has made 12 league starts for his loan club and has caught the eye with some resilient displays at the back.
Clarke-Salter is widely regarded as a promising young player at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea will be keen to discover the full extent of the defender’s ankle injury in the near future.
