Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly sold Memphis Depay in order to make room for one of his other stars.
The Dutchman was one of the first players to be moved on in the Portuguese manager’s tenure though kind words were exchanged.
Mourinho had placed a buy-back clause just in case he would development at his new club and that has certainly happened.
There’s been plenty of debate about whether United should sign Depay again and it was all started due to him putting Germany to the sword with his international side.
Fans believe the time is perfect for the former PSV star to return and claim the right-wing spot as his own and even potentially offer cover for Romelu Lukaku.
According to Old Trafford Faithful, the Daily Express report that Memphis was only sold by Jose to ensure Henrikh Mkhitaryan received enough playing time.
This decision obviously seems bizarre at the moment given how their respective careers changed since that time but it does seem to make sense given the context.
Depay struggled at Old Trafford and was inconsistent even during Louis van Gaal‘s era so the need to move on was there.
Mkhitaryan was trusted by Mourinho on the back of an outstanding season for Borussia Dortmund but instead he let everyone down.
