Paul Pogba produced a decisive performance from attacking midfield during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton in the Premier League.
The Frenchman was handed the chance to move further up the pitch, with Jose Mourinho restoring Fred to the lineup to play alongside Nemanja Matic further back.
And the move allowed Pogba to claim his fifth goal of the season – via a penalty rebound – before grabbing control of the game after half time, laying on a superb assist for Anthony Martial.

If another player had scored, claimed an assist and made more final passes than anyone over 90, they would no doubt receive the plaudits they deserved.
Pogba, however, finds himself on the receiving end of criticism for missing a penalty and losing the ball in the middle, his talismanic influence and enduring talent seemingly forgotten entirely. It may surprise you to hear that he is the Premier League’s top scorer and assister from midfield, with three of each.
Either way, Pogba will not care one bit about what people have to say. This was another game in which he played the lead role, actively directing the shape of the encounter, and emerged victorious at the end.
