Manchester United great Robin van Persie is set to retire at the end of the season at Feyenoord.
The Dutch striker remains hugely loved at Man United after guiding the Reds to their most recent Premier League title.
In Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season before retiring, van Persie led United superbly and won the Golden Boot in emphatic style.
After a season under David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal, van Persie left in a sad fashion, without any kind of farewell from the club. He joined Turkish side Fenerbahce and then returned to his boyhood club, Feyenoord.
He’s been in action for the Dutch side ever since and has scored six goals this season in the Eredivisie. Feyenoord are yet to win the league with van Persie in the side yet, unfortunately.
Now he’s revealed he’s set to retire at the end of the season.
“When I have to stop? That is probably at the end of this season,” van Persie explained to AD, a publication from the Netherlands.
“I will be 36 years old and will have been a professional for 18 years. From the age of five, I’ve only been involved in football.”
It’s been a fantastic career for van Persie, and one that really blossomed in the latter stages of that career.
He’ll always be remembered fondly at Manchester United, particularly at this stage when he was part of the last good United side that fans have seen.
