Jose Mourinho has explained where Manchester United must improve after their 2-1 victory against Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Paul Pogba gave the Reds the lead in the first half as he tapped home the rebound from a missed penalty, and Anthony Martial’s sweetly struck curler nestled into the bottom right corner past Jordan Pickford after the break.
Mourinho was pleased with the performance, but lamented his side’s inability to both hold onto and extend a lead.
It’s been a common issue throughout the last couple of seasons, with Man United frequently sacrificing an advantage late on in games having had a number of chances to kill the game off.
“We are playing okay but we are not as rock solid as I would like and we don’t have the killer instinct I would like,” Mourinho explained in his post-match press conference, as per the BBC.
It’s a valid summation of the game and of United’s performances. It’s an issue Mourinho has to sort out because it’s one that’s plagued the Reds for some years now.
In terms of being rock solid, Victor Lindelof is slowly starting to look like the player that United expected him to be when he signed from Benfica a couple of summers ago. A consistent centre-back partnership will help Mourinho massively.
